Oregon doesn’t make you work hard to find the outdoors. Step outside either Callaway Ranch property and within twenty minutes you’re somewhere genuinely worth being — a riverside trail, a ridgeline with valley views, or a stretch of forest that puts everything back in proportion.

Here are the outdoor experiences most worth your time near Eugene and Junction City.

Pre’s Trail, Eugene

The 4.2-mile paved riverside path along the Willamette is one of the finest urban trails in the Pacific Northwest. Flat enough for an easy morning run, scenic enough to make the walk feel like something. Start at Alton Baker Park and follow the river south.

Spencer Butte, Eugene

The most rewarding climb in the immediate Eugene area. The summit trail gains around 700 feet over about 1.5 miles and delivers panoramic views across the Willamette Valley to the Cascades. Not a casual stroll — proper footwear matters. Allow ninety minutes return and go in the morning before the crowds.

Mount Pisgah Arboretum

Seven miles of gentle trails through meadow, woodland, and wetland habitat along the Coast Fork of the Willamette River. Exceptional for wildflowers in spring and golden valley light in autumn. Dogs welcome on leash. One of the most beautiful morning walks in the Eugene area.

Willamette River Water Trails

The Willamette through the Eugene–Junction City corridor is accessible by kayak and canoe, with several put-in points along the way. Paddle from Alton Baker Park downstream for a relaxed two-hour float. Rentals are available through several Eugene outfitters.

Cascade Foothills Day Trips

An hour east of Junction City, the Cascade foothills open up serious hiking opportunities. The trails around Oakridge and the Willamette National Forest are worth a full day — old-growth Douglas fir, waterfalls, and genuine wilderness within an easy drive of the ranch.

The Ranch Itself

The Junction City Chalet sits on fifty acres of working ranchland. That’s a lot of open space. Morning walks on the property — before the valley mist burns off, when the light is still low — are something guests mention in almost every review.

Whether you’re here for easy riverside walks or proper summit trails, both Callaway Ranch properties put you within reach of Oregon’s best outdoor access.
